As Christmas Day draws closer, I thought I’d share a little more of our holiday decor, including our woodland-inspired fireplace mantel. This one is my favorite yet in this house. It’s simple and woodsy with a touch of glam.
I started with the mirror, which has been stored for the last eight years, though I’ve had it for more than 20 years. Finally, I found a place for it! The antiqued gilded wood frame provides a glam touch without being gaudy. I decorated the wreath with a rustic bell, some pinecones, and red velvet ribbon. It’s attached to the mirror with a handy Command hook.
Anchoring the display on either end are a couple of preserved boxwoods in pots. These usually sit on small end tables flanking the piano, but were moved to make room for two three-foot flocked trees. I think the boxwoods work great on the mantel.
To the left of the mirror, I added some faux fir branches and a couple of my DIY pinecones, along with some fairy lights. Then I added this handsome brushed gold deer I’ve had for ages, along with some of my bottle brush trees. I am enamored with bottle brush trees!
To complete the look and up the frosty effect, I added some white glittery berry picks. It’s just enough white to keep my snowy forest theme going.
To the right of the mirror, I used more bottle brush trees, stacking them on top of a pair of vintage books in shades of green. The gold tree is a new favorite and a steal at Dollar Tree for just $1.25!
For balance and continuity, I repeated the faux evergreen branches, pinecones, and berry picks.
It’s simple, clean, and mostly created from items I already had – except for that $1.25 tree, which will be making repeat performances at Christmases to come. (For more repurposed decorating, visit our post on using found, vintage, and DIY items.)
And that’s a wrap on our 2023 Christmas mantel. I hope you enjoyed taking a peek and I wish you a very Merry Christmas!
