Celebrate mom with a bucket of gorgeous blooms!
It’s hard to beat a stunning arrangement of flowers when it comes to Mother’s Day. They’re full of joy and love – just like moms. And there are so many different kinds – just like moms. Each and every one is unique and beautiful in its own way.
Our inspiration for this arrangement came from a simple place – create a display that represented my mom. It’s a way to celebrate her legacy on our first Mother’s Day since her passing.

The choice for the primary flower was easy: peonies. They’re glamorous standouts that command attention and have an amazing fragrance, just like my mom. Y’all, she could wear some perfume!
We started by gathering the flowers. Since it’s still way too early in the season here to cut real flowers from the garden, we went with artificial versions. The upside is that they last forever. The downside is that you miss out on that wonderful fragrance. There’s always a compromise.

We opted to display the flowers in our primary entryway – the back porch – so we could see the blooms every time we went out and came back in. No sense hiding them in a spot you rarely visit.
That also allowed us to go with a larger container. In this case, we went with a weathered sap bucket (more Maine than Mom, but it’s a great combination).

Then we got busy pulling from our collection of faux flowers. Peonies, snapdragons, and tulips in shades of pink, with one big white hydrangea blossom and some pussy willow thrown in for contrast.
It’s got a carefree, but polished vibe, which makes a fitting tribute to my mom. We love how lush it is without being fussy.
If I had more stems, I’d probably have done another bucket for our kitchen porch and a similar, but smaller arrangement for the dining room table, like the one shown below. It was for Easter a couple of years ago.

And wreaths – it would be fun to go all out with pink peony wreaths inside and out. You could also extend the peony theme to a really pretty table setting. It’s easy to get carried away!
But for this year, since it’s just me and hubby and the dogs, we kept it small but meaningful with on big bucket of blooms.
I think Mom would love it, but she’d probably say “The flowers are beautiful, but it’s kind of an ugly bucket. Are you trying to tell me something?”
I do miss the unfiltered Mom-speak!
Happy Mother’s Day!
