Keep the warm welcome in place post-holidays with a wonderful winter wreath!
Today, we’re sharing six DIY ideas that are bound to add some joy to your exterior doors. Just because Christmas is over doesn’t mean our homes need to look sad and bare. Let’s get decorating!
Grapevine Cutie
This cutie from Pinterest captured my heart when I saw it. A rustic grapevine wreath hung with some burlap ribbon is loaded with texture. But it’s that sweet duck accent with the dangling scrollwork decoration that really stole the show. Utterly charming!
Sifter Snowflake
This vintage grain sifter with stitched snowflake is one of the most creative “wreaths” I’ve seen in a long time. Check eBay and Etsy for sifters and BH&G for more details on how to make the snowflake design.
Classic Yarn Wreath
One of my go-to styles for winter, yarn wreaths are easy to make and perfectly charming. This one from Little Yellow Wheelbarrow features finger knit yarn and a simple burlap bow.
You can also just wrap yarn around a wreath form until it’s covered completely if you want to skip the finger work. That’s what I did for this small wreath in my dining room. Warm and cozy!
Repurposed Garland
For something a little different, try hanging lengths of garland accented with a large pinecone on the bottom. Achieve the look using eucalyptus, olive, and/or lambs ear leaves. Add berries (but skip anything red) and cap it off with moss and some twine. The combination of materials is unique and interesting!
Wood Slices
Wood slices are another wreath material perfect for wintertime. They’re sturdy and simple, making them a wonderful foundation for other decorative accents. Dried or faux flowers in white, seed heads, twigs, and burlap add warmth and texture to this wreath.
Upcycled Scarf Wreath
Lastly, we have the upcycled scarf wreath. This is another one of my favorites. It looks great and it’s SO easy to make. If you have an unused scarf, give it a new life by creating a winter wreath from it. Or, if you don’t have one lying around the house, head to your local thrift store and get one on the cheap.
I made two from cable knit scarves I got on clearance at Walmart years ago. It was a fun project and so fast. Bonus: the wreaths still look great after nearly 10 years!
There are so many fun ways to add a winter welcome to your home – I hope you find the perfect one!
