Memorial Day through the Fourth of July is a great time to add some red, white, and blue to your home decor.
We love that it’s a fairly long stretch – around six weeks – so your efforts don’t go to waste over a single weekend. Yay! And with this year being America’s 250th anniversary, there’s no better time to pull out all the stops.
While the two holidays carry very different tones – Memorial Day is reflective and quieter, while July 4th tends to be flashy and loud (cue the fireworks!) – both are well represented by red, white, and blue displays.
It’s also easy to zhush up your Memorial Day decorations for your July celebration. Or, if you’re like a lot of people, you may just use the same ones with no changes, and that works, too!
We like to start the season with simpler decorations for Memorial Day (featured below), and then add to those for the Fourth of July.

Floral bouquets are always big at our place. We rotate seasonal arrangements on our porches, like this one on our back porch. The rusty sap bucket gets a lot of use! American flags and drapey ribbons pair with faux hydrangea and geraniums.

The enclosed kitchen porch also gets a little red, white, and blue. I like the haphazard nature of this one. It’s not too fussy, but still emblematic of the holiday. Similar galvanized flower buckets can be found at vintage markets, or online.

On the front door, we repeated the blooms from our back porch. Repetition helps things feel more cohesive. So, more white and blue hydrangea and red geraniums with those cute little American flags and grosgrain ribbons. The water hyacinth door basket is from Amazon.

And our trusty boxwood candle rings sport stars and stripes ribbon loops with more hydrangea blossoms tucked in for texture and color.

On the inside of the front door, we just added a simple bow to an existing eucalyptus wreath. Sometimes that’s all you need.

Finally, we added some faux starfish and a string of wooden beads in a small basket. This may be my favorite decoration – a little Maine-inspired patriotism.
When Independence Day nears, we’ll add other elements. Anything resembling fireworks – even sparkler boxes, especially vintage ones – adds to the celebratory vibe.
There’s always something to look forward to.
