1. Make it Sparkle
A clean, organized house makes life a lot easier and more enjoyable. Consider those parts of your home that may go overlooked during most of the year but take center stage during the holiday season.

Remember to clean:
- Entryways
- Exteriors doors
- Fireplace mantles, staircases, and bookshelves
- Glass, crystal, and dishes
- Silverware
- Kitchens (refrigerators, pantries, and ovens)
- Light fixtures
- Linens (napkins, tablecloths, table runners, etc.)
- Mirrors
2. Plan Your Space
If you’re moving a tree into your house, you probably need to make room for it. That can be as easy as moving furniture a few inches, or as involved as rearranging a room entirely.
The same goes for any other décor, especially anything that will take up space on floors, mantles, or tables. Be sure you know what will go where, how much room is needed, and if you need to move furniture out, where it will go for the holiday season.
3. Take Inventory
This step can save you a lot of hassle down the road. Having what you need at your fingertips is a holiday life saver.
Make a list and then take inventory of what you have and what you need to buy.

Some things to have on hand include:
- Batteries
- Command hooks, wire, and zip ties
- Cooking & baking essentials
- Decorations
4. Make a Checklist
You can make it once and reuse (or update) it year after year.
Our brains are so full of to-do tasks, that trying to remember everything is a sure-fire way to forget something. Crossing tasks off a list when they’re done can take a lot of stress off our minds and bodies. It also gives us a sense of accomplishment and saves precious time.
At The Granite Acorn, we have a few different checklists we rely on during the holiday season: cleaning, decorating, and meal planning. Honestly, I’d be lost without them.
