If you’re looking for a fun and easy craft project for Easter, give these DIY napkin rings a try.
Made from a cardboard tube, twine, mini jute carrots, and hot glue, they’re as inexpensive as they are cute.

Gather your materials

The key is in the cardboard tube – it needs to be the right diameter and stiffness to fit the napkin properly and have some durability. For me, the tube from a GLAD® cling wrap box was perfect. A toilet paper tube works, too, and the opening is wider. This option is especially good if your napkin fabric is somewhat thick. Just note that the toilet paper cardboard is not very stiff, so it’s not quite as durable.
Cut the forms
Begin by marking off equal sections on the cardboard tube (I went with 3/4-inch for each one, but the size it totally up to you). These will be the actual napkin rings. Then, using a box cutter or utility knife, cut through the tube completely at each mark to separate your rings. Don’t worry about rough edges, as you’ll cover those with the twine.

Add twine
With the napkin ring forms ready, it’s time to start applying the twine to cover the cardboard. Cut a long length of twine (I cut about a yard). Add a dab of hot glue on the inside of the ring and press one end of twine in it till it holds, being careful not to burn yourself. The glue is hot!
Then begin wrapping the twine all the way around until the ring is entirely covered. Be sure you don’t leave any big gaps.

Once the ring is covered, trim any excess twine, leaving enough to glue the end piece to the inside of the napkin ring. Add another dab of hot glue on the inside of the ring, and press the remaining end of twine into it till it holds.
At this point, you may opt to add some ribbon before attaching the carrot. This offers a bit more color and interest. To do this, cut a piece of ribbon to wrap around your napkin ring and secure the ends with some hot glue.
We picked a cheerful yellow gingham ribbon for this variation on half of our napkin rings. Cute!

Attach the carrot
Next, apply the carrot. Just dab some hot glue on the back of the carrot, press it onto the ring, and hold for a minute or till the carrot stays in place.

Style with your favorite napkin
Then add your favorite napkins and use them to style your spring or Easter table.
We experimented with a few different napkins.

We’re deciding between the blue and white, but may use both. Why not – right?!

It’s an easy little project that offers the chance to add a unique detail to your table. Have fun with it!
