With our living and dining room décor in place, we decided to spread a little more autumn magic throughout the house.
Adding a few touches here and there warmed up some spots in need of a little coziness, and who doesn’t love more coziness?!
The Hallway
In the hallway downstairs, a ceramic pumpkin (it’s really a votive holder) decorates a chest of drawers. Mom bought me the pumpkin years ago and I use it every fall. It came with this really cute acorn collar in the perfect autumn hues.
We scored the chest at an antique store for something like $100. It received a coat of black paint and goes perfectly against this long wall.
In addition to the pumpkin, a collection of family photos, some whitewashed candlesticks, and a vintage ceramic mallard sit on top.
The Guest Bedroom
The antique chest of drawers in our front guest room was practically screaming for a little fall “something.”
To spruce it up, I filled this dark brown wicker basket with white and pale yellow leaves, then tucked in a couple of deeper orange leaves to create just the right accent.
It’s cheerful and warm with plenty of texture, and it looks great with the dark blue and white on the bedding and lamps. Placing it in front of a mirror helps amplify it’s impact in the room.
It also has a place of honor next to a photo of one of our late rescue dogs, Colonel…
and one of my dad’s vintage train cars. Dad was quite the model train collector, and though I only have a few trains of his, I try to use them throughout the house.
The Office
In my office, I filled another wicker basket with an assortment of the same pale leaves used in the guest room. To that, I added faux berries, eucalyptus, a few deeper orange leaves, and some random grapevine sprigs.
Because this arrangement sits on an oak bookcase (another custom creation by hubby), I used a bit more white to keep it from disappearing into the brown surround.
With so much wood in this room, we run the risk of “brown out,” so I’m searching for a mirror or art piece to place in the background for a bit more visual interest. Always a work in progress!
The Front Door
Finally, on the front door, I swapped out some late summer flowers for more season-appropriate ones. It took me maybe five minutes to refresh them for fall. The grapevine in the basket does a great job of holding stems in place.
I have two of these wall baskets and they get TONS of use. They work beautifully for all four seasons, though I typically give them a rest during the winter.
