Life in Maine Upended by Mass Shooting

Update: On Friday night, October 27, authorities found the body of suspected mass shooter Robert Card near the Androscoggin River in Lisbon Falls, Maine, bringing an end to the two-day manhunt.

After reading the alert, we drove the rest of the way home – another hour – mostly silent. We were shocked by the news, unsettled by the idea that the shooter was still at large, and deeply saddened by the senseless loss of life.

At the same time, we were utterly grateful for our safety and that of our friends and families. Life is so precious.

We were also reminded of the ongoing events in Israel and the massive amount of pain and suffering being endured by so many in that country.

To say we were counting our blessings is an understatement.

When we got home and hubby did some unpacking, we locked the doors and went to bed.

As the sun rose this morning, we continued to pray for the capture of the shooter, and for the law enforcement officers committed to bringing him in. We also prayed for Israel, the hostages, and a return to peace.

At The Granite Acorn, we are all about celebrating the joys of home. Today, though, many will find that difficult to do. Some will find it impossible. Lives have been lost, homes have been destroyed, and hearts have been broken.

While we know that peace, love, and joy ultimately will triumph, we also know healing will take time, especially when it has yet to begin.
